Patrón is globally renowned for its tequila, and while it's on the premium end of the spectrum, it's worth every penny. The spirit is made from blue Weber agave, and can be matured for up to 10 years.
The brand's coffee-flavoured variety bursts with freshly roasted coffee on the nose, with chocolate in support and small punches of pepper in background.
The palate is decadent, thick and demanding from the offset, and introduces black espresso and bitter chocolate before caramel consumes the cocoa. There are distant notes of pepper, followed by the return of bitter chocolate for a satisfyingly long finish.
The perfect pour
Patrón XO cafe is made for a baby stout. This super-simple recipe is made with two parts of coffee-flavoured liqueur to one part Irish cream. Pour the liqueur into a small, chilled tumbler, then top with the Irish cream.
To achieve a layered effect – which should make your cocktail look like a small pint of stout, hence the name – slowly pour the Irish cream into the glass over the back of a spoon.
