Pigs in blankets with a twist
Cheer up your chipolatas! Try a new take on classic pigs in blankets using honey and sage, black pudding and date, or squash and chestnut, all wrapped in bacon.
3 twists on pigs in blankets:
1. Honey & sage
Wrap each chipolata with a sage leaf then cut a strip of streaky bacon in half and wrap that around the sage and sausage. Skewer then brush each with honey.
2. Black pudding & date
Fill each pitted date with a little piece of black pudding then wrap in half a slice of streaky bacon and skewer. Coat with a mixture of equal parts brandy and mustard.
3. Butternut & chestnut
Cook the butternut squash squares for 5 mins until partially tender. Cut a chestnut or marron glacé in half. Put each piece of halved chestnut on top of the butternut squash then wrap each in half a slice of streaky bacon and skewer.
Roast all the pigs in blankets for 30-35 mins at 190C/170C fan/gas 5. Serve alongside your Christmas lunch or as a festive canapé. See our classic pigs in blankets recipe for full quantities.
