Here is a typical blend of spices used to make mixed spice:

  • 1 Tbs ground allspice
  • 1 Tbs ground cinnamon
  • 1 Tbs ground nutmeg
  • 2 tsp ground mace
  • 1 tsp ground cloves
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • 1 tsp ground Ginger
  • Blend all spices together, and store in a sealed jar away from light

    Recommend toasting the mace, allspice, cloves and coriander as this brings them back to life and also makes them easier to powder.

    I think the main reason that there is too much nutmeg flavour is that Allspice and Mace are the same thing. so I personally would not add the extra 2tsp of ground mace.. Allspice/Mace is the flower around the nutmeg nut which is dried and ground. it has a similar flavour to nutmeg but is way…
