Method

  • step 1

    Cook the pearl onions for 5 mins and the peas for 2 mins in separate pans of boiling water until the onions are soft and the peas are just cooked.

  • step 2

    Heat the olive oil in a frying pan, brown the onions, then add the peas and shredded Baby Gem lettuce. Cook just to heat through lettuce, then season and serve.

Left out the onions but it still made a tasty unusual side dish for a change. Served with ‘smoked haddock gratin’. Microwaved the peas then stir fried with the shredded lettuce, lots of salt and pepper. Yum!

Delicious. I used spring onions (halved) which I sauteed first, microwaved the peas while that was happening, then bunged the peas in with the shredded lettuce, added a bit of butter, stirred round for a couple of minutes until the lettuce had wilted, seasoned, and that was it! Took minutes, and…

Lovely accompaniment, used shallots instead of pearl onions and 1 tbsp of salted lurpak light instead of oil. Also had the crushed new potatoes too!

speedy and tasty, served it with fish so added a squeeze of lemon & it didn't need a separate sauce. Will try it with shredded fennel through it too as an alternative soon.
