Method

  • step 1

Heat oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6 (or a BBQ). Make a slit through the skin of the bananas along one side – making sure you don’t cut all the way through to the other side. Poke in the chocolate buttons along the cut. Put each banana onto a sheet of foil and crimp the edges together to seal into a parcel. Transfer to a baking sheet and cook for 25 mins until the bananas have turned black (or pop straight into the BBQ embers for 15 mins).

  • step 2

Serve with a scoop of ice cream and any melted chocolate that has escaped!

RECIPE TIPS
GOOEY CHOCOLATE BAKED BANANAS

Assemble the bananas as above, adding 25g mini marshmallows with the chocolate, then cook as before and serve with ice cream.

tip

I recommend swapping out the buttons for dark chocolate (anything with a cocoa content higher than 70%). Also, toast some hazelnuts to crush on top of the vanilla ice cream. That works really well.

Subbed in 70% dark chocolate and a sprinkle of cinnamon for chocolate buttons and cooked at 180 without foil for 15 mintues and it turned out great!

I've made these so many times over the years, great for kids and big kids too. Any chocolate works. Try mixing white and plain chocolate together for a change. I always serve with vanilla ice cream and any sauces.
