How is the Progress Scandi frying pan to use?

Unlike most non-stick frying pans, this one has a slightly rough surface. The metal of the pan is quite thin and overall, it’s very light.

The handle is made from soft-touch plastic and has a faux-wood design. There’s also a hanging hole in the end for easy storage. The handle is a good length and even has a small indent to place the thumb in for comfort.

This frying pan is suitable for all hob types and is also dishwasher-safe. We think it's well-balanced on the hob, but because it’s light, even gentle knocks move it significantly. The pan isn’t oven-safe either, which is something to bear in mind if you like to go from hob to oven when cooking.

Results

Our American pancakes cook very well save for two large cold spots on the side of the pancake. The colouring across the pancake isn’t as opaque as we’ve seen with some other frying pans, but given the price, we can forgive it for that. Despite the slightly uneven colouring, the pancake itself is soft, bouncy and fully cooked through the middle.

We also cook a basic omelette. Because the pan is thin, it responds well to changes in temperature. Once we add the beaten eggs, we turn the temperature down, allowing us to cook in a controlled manner. Unfortunately, we struggle to remove the omelette from the pan – this requires some scraping with a rubber spatula to remove the parts that stuck.

Conclusion

Budget-friendly, lightweight and with a strong eco message, the Progress Scandi pan is a good option for those not looking to spend tonnes of money while also helping the environment.

The handle is comfortable and it cooks pancakes well. We are disappointed by the results of our omelette test, as the non-stick just isn’t up to scratch there. This won’t be a pan for life, but may do if you’re organising kitchenware for your child for uni.
