    Method

    • step 1

Beat the icing sugar, butter and cocoa powder together in freestanding electric mixer (Or use a handheld electric whisk) on medium/slow speed until the mixture comes together and is well mixed.
    • step 2

Turn the mixer down to a slower speed. Add the milk to the butter mixture a couple of tablespoons at a time.
    • step 3

When the milk has been incorporated, add the melted chocolate.
    • step 4

Once all the chocolate has been combined, turn the mixer up to a high speed
    • step 5

Continue beating for about 5 minutes, until it is light and fluffy. The longer the frosting is beaten, the lighter and fluffier it becomes!
    • step 6

Spread on anything and enjoy!!!!!!! :D

Absolutely delicious! One of the best buttercreams that I've ever made, if not the best! Great recipe, just enough for 'Mr Whippy' style piped swirls on 12 cupcakes. I didn't use the melted chocolate, but increased the cocoa to 50g and needed a touch more milk. Piped easily and held its shape. Next time I might add a dash of vanilla extract.

    question

I would like to try this recipe but I don't own an electric whisk. Is there any point trying by hand or am I just gonna waste a lot of ingredients? Thanks

I've made this by hand, and it works fine, if this is still useful.

It would be far more useful if this site used the American way of quoting in cups, teaspoons etc. etc instead of all this ml. g. etc which is such a bore to have to measure out.
