How is the Kuhn Rikon New Life frying pan to use?
This frying pan has a chunky, ergonomically shaped handle. The handle remains cool in use and has a hanging hole at the top for storage.
The pan itself is well balanced and comfortably sits on the hob. If you’re a fan of hob-to-oven dishes or like to finish off foods under the grill, it's oven safe up to 220C.
The New Life pan is easy to hand wash, but also benefits from being dishwasher safe for quick and easy clean-up.
We liked the shape of this frying pan; it's wide with gently curved sides, ideal for tossing and flipping foods. The New Life range also has fantastic eco credentials – not only is it made entirely from recycled cans, but all of the packaging is recyclable, too.
Results
The New Life pan took around two minutes to come to temperature. After pouring our American pancake batter into the pan, we noticed the mixture spread a little further than we’d have liked. The pancake did rise slowly and evenly, resulting in an airy and soft interior. The browning on either side of the pancake was a little patchy and uneven, though.
This pan retains heat well, so going from hot to cooler takes a while. We poured our omelette mix in and turned the heat down. Despite cooling down slowly, we were able to cook up a fluffy and custardy omelette. We did notice slightly more browning in the middle of the pan than the outside, but the omelette slipped right out when it was ready to serve.
Conclusion
With its fantastic eco credentials and an impressive non-stick coating, the Kuhn Rikon New Life is a brilliant non-stick pan. While it doesn’t produce the same even results as some of its more expensive counterparts, it’s still a good choice for everyday cooking.
The handle is comfortable, and it sits neatly on all hobs. Its understated design means it’s sure to suit any kitchen.
