Method

  • step 1

Lightly beat the egg in a shallow bowl along with the milk. Season with salt and black pepper.

  • step 2

Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, making sure it has soaked up all of the liquid. Heat a frying pan over a medium heat and add the butter. Swirl the butter around the pan and when it's beginning to foam, add the bread and fry on each side for 1 min or until golden brown. Transfer to a plate and serve with crispy bacon or fruit compote.

This was lovely! I did half the recipe on brown bread with sugar and cinnamon as previously suggested. It was a little soggy, probably something I did but other than that it was really tasty with some chopped banana. Will use again!

If it was soggy your bread was probably too fresh

Very tasty but it was too much like chocolate

So yummy. And did actually take just 5 minutes if that. I used seeded wholemeal bread. So a good one for fibre and protein. Win win.

tip

If you’re making a sweet French toast substitute the salt and pepper for half a teaspoon of cinnamon and a teaspoon of brown sugar.
