Method

  • step 1

Tip the gin, both vermouths, the orange juice and a large handful of ice into a cocktail shaker. Shake hard until the outside of the shaker feels very cold, then double strain the drink into a coupe or martini glass.

  • step 2

Twist the strip of orange peel over the cocktail to express the oils, then drop it into the drink, or discard it if you prefer.

Recipe tip

Take a strip of peel from an orange using a vegetable peeler or small serrated knife – it should be about 5-6cm long and 1-2cm wide. Twist it over the drink in a wringing motion – if you look closely in good light, you’ll see the oils burst from it and land on the drink. These oils add a lot of flavour and aroma to the finished cocktail. Drop the spent peel into the glass for extra oomph, or discard it for a more subtle drink.
