Method

  • step 1

Heat oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6. Drizzle the potatoes with the oil and some salt and pepper. Bake on a roasting tray for 25 mins, until starting to go brown.

  • step 2

Remove and turn the chips. Push to edges of the tray, put the gammon in the centre and cook for 7 mins more. Take the tray out of the oven and turn the gammon over, then crack the egg into the corner of the tray. Cook for 7 mins more until the egg is set and the gammon is cooked through. Serve with ketchup, if you like.

Also had soggy chips after the gammon released a lot of water. Had to drain it off twice. Egg yolk also overcooked. Think it would be much easier to do the chips in the oven and gammon and egg in a frying pan.

You don’t know how to cook mate 😀

I tried this recipe twice and the chips were soggy and awful. Water from the gammon soaked into the chips spoiling them. My advice is cook the gammon separately in a frying pan, let it rest for a few mins in the oven with the door open after the chips are done while you cook the egg in the gammon…

Tip from the greasy spoon trade - when baking eggs in the oven if you want them perfectly round and not to run into each other you can use a metal rice presentation ring.
