Method

  • step 1

Pulse together the bread mix and sugar in a food processor or table-top mixer. While the motor is running, add the egg and about 250-300ml lukewarm water, until a soft dough is formed. Knead on a lightly floured surface until smooth, about 5-10 mins. Leave in an oiled bowl, covered with oiled cling film, in a warm place until doubled in size – about 1 hr.

  • step 2

Knock back dough by squashing with your fist, and divide into 20 even-sized pieces – keep covered with a clean tea towel so they don’t dry out. Shape each into a sausage and place on an oiled baking tray. Cover with oiled cling film and rise until doubled in size again.

  • step 3

Heat oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6. Remove film and cook buns on top shelf for 8-10 mins, until golden. Cool on a wire rack. To decorate, mix icing sugar with a little water until stiff but spreadable – add food colouring, if you like. Dip in the top of each bun and scatter with sprinkles.

These came out great! Really easy to make and came out really soft and delicious.

Made these using my bread machine using a basic bread recipe, dough a bit wet had to add more flour in order to kneed, but they turned out amazing , added raisins and made them into belgian buns as my granddaughter has a milk allergy and all belgian bun recipes have milk These worked out perfect…

This is, without a doubt, the most unsuccessful recipe I have ever cooked from goodfoods. The dough didn't rise, the buns didn't go golden, in fact, I think I could knock someone out with them. They are dense af and very disappointing!! Do not bother!

I have never had much luck with buns in the past, but this recipe being called "easy" I thought I'd give it a go to treat the kids. Well, three hours and a lot of messy washing up later, and I have some anaemic looking lumps of heavy baked dough. And yes, I followed the recipe, used Wright's bread…

This recipe didn’t work for me, at all. My dough didn’t rise. This is so disappointing. I’ve searched other recipes & they use other ingredients including yeast. I’d advice others to do the same

I used Wright's bread mix and mine didn't rise either. Very disappointing waste of time
