  • 750ml red wine
  • 100ml Spanish brandy
  • 3 tbsp golden caster sugar
  • 1 tbsp mixed spice
  • 250-300ml sparkling water or lemonade

You’ll also need

  • 1 litre screwtop or flip-top bottle
  • 1 small spice jar or tin
  • 1 apple
  • 3 clementines
  • 1 pomegranate
    or a small pack of prepared pomegranate seeds

Method

  • step 1

    Pour the wine and brandy into a 1-litre bottle. Combine the sugar and mixed spice, then tip into a spice jar.

  • step 2

    To gift, put the sangria base in a gift bag or box along with the spice jar, whole fruits and these instructions: Chop the apple and clementines, tip into a large serving pitcher and sprinkle over the spice mix. Leave to stand for 1 hr, then pour in the sangria base, a handful of ice and the sparkling water (or lemonade). Stir in the pomegranate seeds and serve. Serves 6-8.
