Method

  • step 1

    Heat the grill to high. Heat the oil in a large pan, then gently fry the onion for 5 mins until soft. Add the tomatoes and stock, bring to the boil, then simmer for 5 mins. Season.

  • step 2

    Flake the smoked mackerel into the pan, stir, then tip the mixture into a shallow dish and sprinkle over the breadcrumbs and parmesan. Grill for 5 mins or until bubbling and golden.

Very simple & tasty supper dish. Added pasta to the sauce to fill it out a bit. Not sure that it qualifies as a pie though!

I made the recipe as suggested but put mashed potatoes on the top instead. Really lovely. I am going to make it with smoked salmon next time for a change.

Tasted great. If I do it again I would add something to chew on as it was more like a soup texture.

"yummy" was the reaction of my 2yr old! very simple and easy and cuz i was looking for a quick fish dish for a toddler i halved the portion sizes and served with carrots and green beans. i used capelin as id bought that from my fishmonger to use for my child as its boneless (i think it was capelin)…
