Points to remember

  • Fill a third of a large, microwave-safe mug with dry macaroni and cover with double the volume of water.
  • Cover the mug with cling film and place it in a microwave-safe bowl. Pierce the cling film over the mug and put the whole lot in the microwave for 2 minutes.
  • The water will bubble up and out into the bowl, but just pour that back into the mug once the 2 minutes are up and repeat the process once more.
  • Once the macaroni is cooked, add the butter and cheese, plus Marmite if using. Stir until everything has melted and serve.

METAL AND MICROWAVES

“Never, put anything metal in the microwave, or any crockery with a metal trim. Metal reflects the microwave and catches fire – with my firefighter hat on, it’s a common cause of kitchen fire, and kitchen fires quickly turn into house fires. If in doubt, leave it out.” – Jack Monroe
