Introducing Good Food Rising Stars

Do you love creating recipes and being in front of the camera? If the answer is yes, this new competition is for you!

We are excited to launch Good Food Rising Stars 2024, a new nationwide competition in search for talented, undiscovered food content creators.

At Good Food, we know talent is an essential ingredient to creating great content, that’s why we always work with trusted and much-loved recipe writers. And now, we want to give some new people the opportunity to launch their faces in the food industry.

We’re looking for home cooks who are passionate about food to showcase their best original recipes to our audiences. You could be a single parent feeding fussy kids, a student eating on a budget or a senior citizen who discovered the joys of cooking later in life – whoever you are, you’ll be natural, engaging and relatable on camera, and you’ll love creating easy, everyday dishes.

Do you think this could be you? Then read on to discover how you could win...

  • Five of your original recipes developed with the Good Food team, which will be published in Good Food Magazine or on our website.
  • Meeting the Good Food team at our office in London, where you’ll receive advice and get an insight into what it’s like working in the industry.
  • Two tickets to the Good Food Show Winter on 23 November (expenses will be paid for), with access to the green room, plus lunch and a glass of fizz (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) provided. In addition, the winner will take part in a Q&A on the Let’s Talk Good Food Stage.

How to enter

What recipe means the most to you? Perhaps it’s a favourite childhood meal, something memorable you ate on a special holiday, or simply your go-to comfort food.

All you need to do is write it up and send it to us, along with a one-minute video of you explaining why it means so much to you, followed by a short demonstration on how to make it.

The recipe must meet the following criteria:

  • The ingredients must be easily accessible from a supermarket or online.
  • The recipe should use no more than 10 ingredients (this doesn’t include cooking oil or salt and pepper).
  • It should use no more than three dishes or pans.
  • It should only use conventional cooking methods (oven hob, air fryer and microwave are all fine).
  • Please use sustainable cooking practices – no undue food or energy waste, single-use plastic or other planet-damaging practises will be featured on our social channels.
  • The recipe must be ready in under 45 minutes and feed either two or four people.

And what makes a good video?

Here are a few helpful tips:

Start and end the video with you on screen, interacting with/trying the dish.

Aim to introduce a new frame every 2-3 seconds to keep your audience’s attention.

Open the video by presenting some kind of hook or the most exciting element of the recipe.

For example, ‘This is only recipe you’ll need to celebrate Peanut Butter Day!’ or ‘This midweek meal is always a hit with my family’

Try to film in plenty of natural light.

Use the sounds you produce while cooking – thinking frying, chopping, peeling etc. – to really engage a foodie audience.

Make your content as rich, colourful and mouth-watering as possible.

The Good Food Rising Star timings

Applications are open from 12 September and close at 11.59pm on 6 October.

Our judges will then go through all the entries to create a shortlist of 8 finalists. If you’re one of them, you will be contacted by 14 October with a task to prepare for the live final round.

The final round will be filmed and will form part of the Good Food Rising Stars 2024 YouTube content. It will take place on 28 October at a location kitchen in central London (your travel expenses will be paid for) and the judging panel will select one winner and four runners-up at the end.

The winner will then be invited to attend and participate in the Good Food Show Winter, on 23 November at NEC Birmingham.
