First impressions of the Magimix 4200XL 18473 food processor
The Magimix 4200XL comes securely packaged in a rather large box with a little more polystyrene than we would have liked. On lifting the food processor from its plastic wrapping, we noted that this is a lovely looking machine: well-designed, with unfussy, clean lines. There are 11 accessories, and assembling was easy, intuitive, and needed little reference to the manual.
The accessories include 2/4mm discs for shredding, grating or slicing; a dough blade, geared whisk and a Sabatier main blade for chopping. One small accessory that proved helpful was the specially designed spatula that fits into the bowls, to scrape up all the mixture.
Uniquely to Magimix, there's also an extremely clever blending ring that sits in the large bowl, used to blend or purée soups and sauces by deflecting liquids onto the main chopping blade. Plus, all these accessories fit into a hard plastic, lidded storage box, which keeps them off the worktop or loose in cupboards.

How easy is the Magimix 4200XL 18473 food processor to use?
Having three bowls to work with makes this processor so versatile; from the large, sturdy 3-litre down to the small 1.2, every quantity is catered for. We used the small bowl for pesto, and we were delighted – not just with speed, but with the texture and colour that only a sharp blade and fast motor could achieve. The Bada Gede spice paste whipped up in a flash, too.
We tested the blending ring on a tomato soup and were impressed by the results. Not only was the soup beautifully blended, but it also had a velvety texture.
Slicing was speedy with consistent results. The grater flew through parmesan and carrots, and the pizza dough came together in just 30 seconds (as recommended in the manual). It was smooth and stretchy in a short time, but we found it just a little tough when cooked.
Conclusion
This is a food processor for anyone who wants an extra pair of hands in the kitchen, because it makes short work of all tasks. The Magimix is easy to clean, and all accessories are dishwasher safe except for the motor housing. A triple locking safety system ensures the processor can be used with care and confidence. We rated it for many reasons, including the best recipe book on the test. Above all, it was simple to use with just one auto speed setting and a pulse function, plus a fantastic range of useful accessories.
