First impressions of the KitchenAid 1.7l food processor

This compact food processor oozes style – it has a slightly retro feel and comes in various colours to suit any kitchen. The processor is slim with a small footprint, but tall for a compact machine with its 1.7 litre jug.

Despite a heavy multi-language manual, it was simple to assemble – we had it up and running in minutes. We particularly liked the innovative one-click, twist-free bowl, which clicked into place thanks to strong magnets. There’s a latched lid-locking system that makes it easy to use and safe.

Cleverly, the discs and blades are stored inside the bowl, saving even more space and protecting fingers from sharp edges when stored in a drawer. Removing the spare stored blades and discs from the jug every time is a minor nuisance, but the space-saving and safety are worth it.

How easy was the KitchenAid 1.7l food processor to use?

There are two different speeds and a pulse function. It chopped hard cheese, onions and celery very well, but carrots struggled a little, so we cut them into smaller pieces. Slicing potatoes was our favourite with the even cut. The slices weren’t too large, restricted by the size of the food chute, but they made excellent dauphinoise.

Our pesto and the spicy paste Basa Gede were successful, but any less mixture and they would not have chopped chopped well – we had to keep scraping down the bowl. There’s a helpful small hole in the feeder tube for the slow adding of oil. We made the pesto using this function and felt it helped it thicken and stay close to the blade.

No complaints with the pizza dough; it whipped into shape in no time, stretching and kneading well in the bowl.

Conclusion

If you only use a food processor occasionally or need to prioritise space over accessories, then the KitchenAid is especially good for smaller households.
