Global Gizmos Bubble waffle maker summary
This is a waffle maker with a difference. You use the same batter as with any other waffle maker – we used our own plain waffles recipe, but you could also try our bubble waffle recipe – but the results are quite different. This makes bubble waffles.
These are a collection of small bubble-shapes, all joined together in one piece. It makes a fun alternative to regular ones, though they are best suited to those with smaller appetites, as they aren’t as hearty as some of the others we tried.
One other important difference is that you flip this machine over during cooking, with the aim of making the waffle equally brown on either side.

First impressions
The machine is a snazzy red and has feet on both sides. We liked the lights as they are easy to distinguish, even if you are colour blind. There is an oval-shaped green light and a smaller red one underneath.
The instructions say that when the machine is switched on, the red light will go on, with the green one lighting up when it is ready to use.
However, we found that both lights came on straight away and the green light went off after about three and a half minutes, which we took as a sign that it was hot enough to pour the batter in.
If you used this machine regularly, you would get used to it, but it can throw you off a bit at first. We assumed this was an error with the instructions, rather than the machine.
You have to fill this one more carefully than regular machines, making sure each individual bubble is filled sufficiently to spill over the top, so it all joins together. The instructions suggest doing this with a jug and spoon or even a fabric piping bag.
You’re directed to turn it over halfway through the cooking period, which is a suggested three to five minutes. We gave it two on each side and it was fine.
The results
The bubbles were more evenly cooked on the bottom than the top, and it took a few goes to get the right amount of batter in the pan. Too little and a few of your bubbles will end up isolated.
This cleans up easily and the fixed plates just need a wipe over.
Overall, this is a good and quirky machine, though probably not one for waffle traditionalists.
