How is the Cuisinart 2-in-1 to use?

Lifting the Cuisinart 2-in-1 from its almost fully recyclable packaging box revealed a large, slightly heavy, yet exceptional machine. The Cuisinart waffle maker has an attractive frosted, pearlised coating, a large handle with a central release button, and a central variable heat knob and two lights – one to signify the machine is on, and the other, ready to cook. There are two removable waffle plates, which can be switched out for American-style pancake plates (included in the box).

Thanks to the non-stick coating, there's no need to oil the plates first. The booklet recommends a medium heat for waffles, and it took just six minutes for the plates to reach the correct temperature.

There were two waffle plates, and after a couple of goes, we worked out the amount of batter needed for each plate (60ml) to reduce any wastage. It took just 3½ minutes to cook the two waffles. We were impressed by the speed and even cooking of each waffle.

Cooking results

After testing the correct quantity of batter needed, the rest was easy, with the waffles slipping from the machine effortlessly. The golden colour of the waffles was even, with very few dead spots, all from following the timings recommended by Cuisinart. The result was a crisp outer and soft middle, which was the perfect waffle for us.

The versatility of this machine makes it stand out. If the ability to make perfectly cooked waffles and pancakes isn't enough, there are also plates to make toasted sandwiches and another grill plate, though these are bought separately.

We loved that the plates were dishwasher-safe, and that the waffle maker comes with a five-year guarantee. The only downside was the positioning of the release button to open the waffle maker, which was in the centre of the handle. It was okay when the machine was on the worktop, but when we carried it to put away, it was easy to hit the button, making the machine flip open.
