  • 1 litre dry cider
  • 500ml apple juice
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • 1 thumb-sized piece of ginger
    peeled and sliced
  • 1 tbsp cardamom pods
    crushed open
  • 1 cinnamon stick
    plus extra to serve (optional)
  • 1 large orange
    zest pared into strips
  • 1 apple
    sliced, to serve (optional)

Method

  • step 1

    Pour the cider and apple juice into a large saucepan. Add the remaining ingredients, bring to a very low simmer and cook gently for 30 mins. Turn off the heat and leave to infuse for 3 hrs. When ready to serve, warm the mulled cider through for a few minutes before ladling into heatproof glasses with slices of apple and cinnamon sticks, if you like.

Hahaha! 45 minutes to the bells- just enough time to make this lovely mulled cider recipe! Oh wait.. 3 HOURS to infuse!!! Wish I'd seen that before I started! Thanks BBC Good Food for somewhat misleading recipe timings! And a Happy New Year to you too!
